HARTLEPOOL UNITED have strengthened their attacking options by landing former Manchester City youngster James Thorne.

Pools boss Craig Harrison has been desperate to add to his forward line and has taken time to get in the right man.

But after having Thorne, 21, train with the squad over the last week he has moved to tie him down and it is hoped he will be in contention for Saturday’s trip to Woking if approved by the National League.

He impressed during a behind-closed-doors game against Bradford City at Victoria Park on Tuesday and that helped persuade Harrison to get it done.

Thorne started out as a trainee at City before going on to have a short spell with Macclesfield Town.

He then moved to Nottingham Forest two years ago and made his professional debut in an EFL Cup tie at Millwall in August last year. He had a further spell at Macclesfield on loan.

Harrison has made no secret of his wish to bring in an extra forward, particularly after losing Jake Cassidy to a foot injury and Manchester-born Thorne is the man and will wear No 10.
