DAVE JONES feels Nicky Deverdics will benefit from a loan spell at Dover.

The Hartlepool United midfielder returned to his former club this week on a temporary basis, after failing to hit it off at Pools.

He moved from Dover in the summer when his contract expired, but has yet to find the form which brought him 15 goals and 18 assists as he matured into the National League’s best midfielder.

Deverdics should start against Wrexham tomorrow, while Pools go to Mansfield in League Two.

But Jones will have his player closely monitored during his time away from Pools.

“Nicky has gone and I need to see him play,’’ he said at this morning’s press conference at the Northern Gas and Power Stadium. “In the reserves I won’t see a true reflection of his ability.

“He’s on a month to month (loan) and I’ve promised him that if he plays we will get to see him, someone will be there from the club to watch. And I would do that with anyone I sent on loan – at any level and whoever it is.

“It’s best sometimes to get them out and playing in a league when it matters rather than in a reserve game.’’
