DAVE JONES can see the changes and improvement in his Hartlepool United side.

In three games under his command, Pools have won, drawn and lost. The draw on Saturday against Yeovil, as Padraig Amond’s goal was cancelled out by a penalty five minutes later, which came when loan debutant Andrew Nelson fouled in the penalty area.

And, while he is satisfied with the reaction from his players as they work under a new structure and under new ideals, Jones admitted: “We have to manage games better and for 70-75 minutes I couldn’t fault them. We were compact and moved the ball well and the young lad (Nelson) got isolated and he needed more help around him.

“Someone on the pitch should have helped him a bit more, but his performance was a good one to begin with.

“Him and Louis (Rooney) are raw, Andrew will be a good player, but he needs to start in first gear rather than second.

“The cross was well worked, we worked on it in training and we have them on the ropes, but didn’t finish them off.

“Yeovil didn’t create many chances, the late free-kick was about it. In open play? I can’t remember many.

“They grew into the game, we needed to manage it better. Young players want to do well and they show inexperience at times.

“Everything we have asked of them was good and it’s working, I’ve no complaints apart from the goal we conceded could have been stopped – but everyone who is a manager would say that.’’

Pools yesterday had a High Court winding-up order dismissed. Counsel for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs asked one of the country’s senior insolvency judges, Mr Registrar Nicholas Briggs to dismiss the winding up petition.

Chairman Gary Coxall has previously said the £104,298.47 bill had been paid.
