HARTRLEPOOL United suffered a familiar tale as they fell to another home defeat.

Pools lost 1-0 to Grimsby, despite dominating possession – second-half especially - but being unable to break through a resolute visiting rearguard.

Pools had the game’s first chance on five minutes as Sean Kavanagh rolled a pass across the six-yard area just out of reach of Billy Paynter.

The home side should have had a penalty on 17 minutes when Omar Bogle handled in the area, but referee Darren Drysdale was having none of it.

Padraig Amond, who netted 39 times for the Mariners last season before signing for Pools, took an early chance on a volley, but keeper Dean Henderson saved well.

The loanee from Manchester United was safe with everything thrown at him.

Adi Yussuf, signed last week from Mansfield, netted the only goal on 35 minutes as he latched onto Craig Disley’s slide-rule pass and got goal side of the defence to net low into the bottom corner.

It was the Mariners’ only shot on goal.

Pools had plenty of possession, but were always let down by their final ball and their best chance came when Billy Paynter had an effort cleared off the line by Shaun Pearson.
