THERE’S a new name, but results haven’t yet been altered at the home of Hartlepool United.

Victoria Park is now The Northern Gas and Power Stadium; three points are yet to be chalked up in three attempts this season.

Form at home in recent seasons has been more negative than positive, and it’s a situation Craig Hignett is desperate to turn around for tomorrow’s game with Mansfield.

Draws with Colchester and Newport came either side of a defeat to Notts County and Pools’ two wins this season have been on the road.

Hignett declared: “If we are going to do anything this season we need to win at home. We have to make sure our home form is spot on, we need to make sure it's tough place to come and teams don't like coming here.

"Sometimes away from home suits you because the onus isn't on you to attack.

"It's something we've looked at it.

"We have defended deep at home sometimes and got more chances than when we've gone and pressed teams.

"I want to be able to do that in different periods of games, I might say to the lads press high for 15 minutes then I may say sit back and let them have it, see what difference it makes.

"We're not quite there yet, we've not quite grasp how and when to do it.

"But we will, it's all about building stuff.’’

Pools beat tomorrow’s opponents at home in April thanks to two Billy Paynter penalties and Hignett added: "When I first came in the remit was to stay in the league and be hard to beat.

"After that you want to add stuff, you want the team to have more about them than just sitting back and seeing if we can nick it.

"I want the players to work out how to win games when they are perhaps not going our way.

"I want us to be able to change the flow of a game by playing different ways in the same shape."

Hignett is likely to be without Matthew Bates tomorrow. The centre-half was injured almost three weeks ago in the home draw with Newport as he suffered a late ankle injury and has missed the last two games.

The manager said: "It's probably too soon for Batesy, but as for the other lads they shouldn't be too far away.

"We'll assess them today and see where we are."

Michael Woods and Jake Carroll both sat out last weekend’s win at Yeovil with knocks, while Rob Jones was forced off at half-time with injury.

The trio should be in contention tomorrow and Hignett added: "A lad elbowed him in the hip when Rob went up for a challenge last week.

"If the game had carried on he'd probably have been all right but because he stopped at half-time it seized up.

"He wanted to give it a go, but I didn't want to risk it, he could hardly lift his leg.

"I was thinking of changing anyway and bringing Lewie (Alessandra) on, getting more creative people on and going for it.

"In the end it worked out as I thought it would.

"We'll see today, we'll have a look at him, hopefully he will be. He's had a couple of daft injuries which have frustrated him.’’
