Andy Monkhouse, the former Hartlepool United winger, has turned down a new deal with Bristol Rovers. After being freed by Pools 12 months ago he signed for Darrell Clarke’s side and helped them back into the Football League at the first attempt.
However, after playing 42 games for the Conference side, he won’t be returning. He said: "They gave me a couple of offers and I told the gaffer on Monday that I wouldn't be going be back. I loved it, I really enjoyed it there. I went with the aim of getting promoted and we did it, so it was great."
Monkhouse, seeking a club nearer to his Leeds home, was linked with a return to Pools last season, as part of a proposed swop deal with Jack Compton.
He was given his debut at Rotherham as a 17-year-old by current Pools boss Ronnie Moore, when he scored against Pools at Millmoor.
Meanwhile, Darren Holden, freed by Pools at the end of last season, has signed a two-year deal with Ross County.
