RONNIE MOORE has completed summer signing number five, with the arrival of Jake Carroll, and the hope of more to follow.

The left-back / wing-back was released by Huddersfield at the end of last season after spending two years at the club. He cost The Terriers around 150,000 euros when signed by boss Mark Robins.

He moved to Yorkshire from St Patrick’s Athletic in 2013 and has had loan spells at Bury and Partick Thistle.

Carroll, who has represented Ireland at junior level, played six times for the Terriers, six for Bury and ten times for Partick.

Born in London, but raised in Ireland, he follows Rhys Oates, Harry Worley, Carl Magnay and Rakish Bingham in joining Pools in recent weeks.

Carroll said: “I’ve been asking around about the Club and about Ronnie Moore and everything that people told me was good – it was mainly that the club shouldn’t have been in the position they were in last year.

“I’ve heard great stuff about Ronnie too; he obviously did a great job here last season so everything I’ve heard has been very positive.

“The big thing about coming here was that I felt wanted. I felt like I was near the top of the gaffer’s list to come here so as long as you feel that from a manager then you will want to come and sign.’’

Moore has also landed a new goalkeeping coach in Tony Caig from Carlisle, after the club operated without one following the exit of Stephen Pears in the second-half of last season.

And Caig has revealed he was told his position was changing to part-time at Brunton Park, before moving to Victoria Park.

After two meetings with the Carlisle hierarchy, Caig was then told of the change in circumstances.

“It would have been a reduced contract in terms of time, and also financially a huge reduction on what I was earning,’’ he revealed. “I said I was prepared to look at it, as long as I could possibly develop other avenues to help me build up my wages, such as my own goalkeeping academy and possibly some freelance coaching, although it was going to be a struggle.

“But a few days later Ronnie Moore phoned me and said he wanted to bring me in full-time. When I went across to Hartlepool everything was positive and it was difficult to say no.

“Like anyone else I have a family to think about, and it is also going to be a very hands-on role there.

“Hartlepool will get my full commitment – the same commitment I’ve shown in all my time at Carlisle United.”
