Goal: 0-1: Cuvelier (84, rolled in low from a counter attack with the Pools’ defence static and beaten too easily)

Bookings: Akins (3, diving); Tshibola (57, foul)

Referee: Darren Bond (Burscough): A bit too officious, confusing at times 4

Attendance: 3,289

Entertainment: 1/5

HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-4-2)

5 Flinders: Looking to distribute the ball quicker recently, which is a good thing. Didn’t have a great deal to do, one first-half save aside;

3 Austin: Culpable for the goal, got caught on the turn not knowing where the opposition were. And until then he did look comfortable back on the right side

6 HARRISON: Won plenty of towering headers, fully committed to climbing high to beat his man. Generally kept the opposition in check

6 Mirfin: Dropped in to clear his lines and the defender competed as well as he always does in the middle of the back four

6 D Jones: Didn’t let anyone down on the left side on his recall to the side. He’s a defender who Ronnie Moore has plenty of faith in;

4 Compton: A week ago and he created the winning goal and was lauded by Moore. This time, he contributed little and his dead ball delivery was woeful in the first-half

5 Featherstone: For a spell he was the game’s busiest player, seeing plenty of the ball and using it well. Another who needs to look at how Pools conceded the decisive goal

6 Tshibola: Combative and likes to move the ball on in midfield when he can in tight areas, but sometimes he gets caught when it’s too busy in there

5 J Jones: Bright and inventive out wide in the first half, as he tried to get forward and get the ball over, but disappeared in the second period;

3 Harewood: Another recall and another desperately weak performance. Must be a joy to mark for the opposition – doesn’t use his strength to try and compete

5 Bird: Dropped deep plenty of times looking for the ball. Would be great in the penalty area, but has to go looking for possession because the ball is never in the box.

Subs: Franks (for Compton 62): A like for like swop with half an hour to go 5, Smith (for Harewood 62): Brought some mobility to the forward line at times 5, Morgan (for Bird 80). Not used: Maxted (gk), Walker, Richards, Duckworth.

BURTON (4-4-2): McLaughlin 5; Edwards 6, Candsell-Sherriff 6, Mousinho 6, McCrory 5; Akins 6, Weir 6, Naylor 6, Palmer 5 (Cuvelier 84 (Taft 90)), Beavon 7, Antoine-Curier 5 (El Khayati 74). Subs (not used): Phillips, Slade, Harness, Shearer (gk)

MAN OF THE MATCH
Scott Harrison – committed and some of his team-mates should take note of his attitude
