MARVIN MORGAN has a habit of scoring when he’s involved with Hartlepool United. And now, after getting his share against Pools, he’s doing it for them.

Before netting Pools’ winning goal against Northampton on Tuesday night at Victoria Park, he scored twice on his last visit, as a Shrewsbury striker in 2012.

This season, on a rare start for Plymouth, he netted for the Pilgrims against Pools at Home Park.

When Ronnie Moore travelled to Devon to watch Morgan play for the reserve side against Newport two weeks ago, he scored twice.

That record improved this week as, on his second start for Pools since his loan move, Morgan latched onto a loose back pass and netted confidently to earn a third successive home victory – the first time in a year they’ve managed such a feat.

“Scoring is a relief for me, you don’t score and people start talking and it becomes harder as you get rated on goals,’’ he said. “You could play like Ronaldo, not score and get rated low.

“It’s quite nerve-wracking, it was a big game and I was brought in to score goals – if you don’t do it then it looks bad.

“The chance came from nothing, but I was kicking myself in the first half for not being on my toes to meet a cross and be one on one.

“That was my second competitive game in three months, so my body has to adapt to it. With match sharpness and fitness then people will see what I can do. I can bring more to the table.

“It’s always good to get off the mark early – less pressure on you. You can have a great game, but not score and it’s all about getting goals.’’

Moore has long been interested in Morgan and the striker has moved from club with play-off aspirations to one where success will be finishing third bottom this season.

Pools take on Stevenage on Saturday with the gap to second bottom down to five points.

And the striker admitted: “There’s a good atmosphere here. When I was first told Ronnie was interested I looked and it was 11 points to make up. No chance. That’s some battle isn’t it.

“Then the points come down and it’s something to aim for. The lads here are a great bunch. Everyone is in it and this win on Tuesday will do us the world of good for the weekend. Get a result and we creep up.

“We lost at Portsmouth, but we won this one – we are better off than drawing both of them.

“I hope this is a confident dressing room now, that’s how it should be. It’s a tough one for us, we should be confident of going forward and make a difference at the weekend.’’

Starts for Morgan this season have been somewhat scarce, but his game (and build-up) against Pools at Home Park in September this season will never be forgotten.

The striker’s partner Jerri is from Tyneside and, with baby Miles on the way he went through every emotion possible – while travelling up and down the country.

“I was up at Newcastle, we thought she was in labour and we had to decide on what do to as I was back in the team, but the decision was that it was my career, I had to play,’’ he said.

“So I left for Plymouth, got on the train, I was on the wrong one – heading to London! It was a £220 ticket and the conductor made me buy another for £200. Then I bought a new ticket for Plymouth and the missus rang – she was in labour. Are you being serious!!

“So another train to Newcastle from London – another £150! It was worth it in the end as I saw my little man. He arrived, it was back to Plymouth and I scored against Hartlepool. What a week and a good story to tell him when he’s older.

“But it’s good to be in the North-East, her family is from Whitley Bay and it’s good to have people around.’’
