HARTLEPOOL UNITED will appeal against Marlon Harewood’s dismissal at Mansfield, in the hope he can face Morecambe tomorrow.

Pools had both Harewood and Michael Woods dismissed in yesterday’s 1-1 draw.

Boss Ronnie Moore had no complaints with Woods’ red card in injury time, and will fine the midfielder, but feels Harewood was harshly treated.

He was ordered off by referee Scott Mathieson and Moore said: “Marlon was sent off and we don’t know why, the cameras don’t show anything, so how the linesman can see it who knows?

“The linesman ran past me when Michael (Duckworth) made a challenge for a header on the halfway line and said we were lucky there and got out of jail.

“He saw that challenge (Duckworth) as an elbow when it wasn’t, so I’ve no idea how he’s seen the sending-off.

“I don’t understand it. The referee is nearer than anyone else and other people can see something – I’m not having it.

“Marlon there was no malice – he wouldn’t frighten my missus, so he’s not going to get involved in anything like that. I want to see it again on video.’’

Pools have to lodge their appeal this morning and will discover the verdict this evening.

Of Woods, Moore said: “Michael showed a total lack of professionalism for me. Last thing we need is to go down to nine men for the last few minutes.

“Michael will get fined – stupid, absolutely stupid. We said at half-time he was walking a tightrope after being booked, so nice and easy don’t do anything daft.

“We have players in there and then does something stupid and he misses Sunday.

“Sunday is a big one for us, we said four points from these two games. We will have a go and if we can start on Sunday the way we finished this one then we have a chance.’’

Midfielder Tommy Miller is likely to replace Woods on Sunday, after missing the last nine games with a calf strain.

Admission for tomorrow has been reduced to £10 on the gate.
