Darlington chairman Raj Singh has revealed the transfer fee which took Michael Smith to Charlton Athletic this week.

The striker moved The Valley on transfer deadline day when both Quakers and the Valiants announced the fee was undisclosed.

But, speaking in the programme for today's game with Mansfield Town, Singh has revealed that the fee was £75,000 while there will also be appearance-related add-ons as well as a sell-on percentage.

Singh also says Notts County and Watford, who Smith trained with last month, both offered £50,000 for the 19-year-old while Bristol City made an £80,000 bid.

Both of Notts County and Watford's bids were turned down, as was the Hornets' request to take Smith on loan.

Singh says Bristol City's offer was not good enough as it included staged payments so Quakers felt “we could do better”.
