CHRIS Senior could find few positives in Darlington’s fourth successive away draw despite scoring his first goal for the club, saying the result against nine-man Eastbourne Borough “feels like a defeat”.

Making his seventh appearance since joining from Altrincham in the summer, the striker opened his account when he firmly met Paul Arnison’s cross in the closing stages of the first half.

That should have been cue for the visitors go on and handsomely record their first away win of the campaign having been two men to the good from the 32nd minute.

Senior, however, acknowledged that Quakers could have few complaints about failing to overcome a battling team spurred on by their perceived first-half injustices.

“It was nice to get off the mark and it would have been even better to have got the three points which, to be honest, we didn’t deserve,” he said.

“We probably didn’t even deserve a point looking at the result.

“I’ll go home and reflect on the game and not think too much about my goal, more the two points dropped.”

The fixture was the latest in a hectic start to the season in which Darlington, like all Blue Square Bet Premier teams, have played two matches a week. With no game until the visit of Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, Senior would prefer there to be a quicker chance to make amends.

“I don’t think I missed a chance but in previous matches when you’ve missed chances you want to get on the field as quickly as possible and put it to bed.”

“The free week gives us a chance to get on the training field now and work together and no doubt there’s a few hard days ahead.

“We’re unbeaten away from home but, having played Altrincham, Kettering, Barrow and Eastbourne, we’ve got to be looking to have won at least three of those.

“If we can win our home games and pick up points on the road then we won’t be too far away but this is two points dropped and it does feel like a defeat.”
