FORMER Darlington midfielder Leon Scott has joined Scarborough Athletic.

He was released by Quakers at the end of the season, bringing to an end five years with the club.

He played in the first game of the Northern League season, as did Gary Brown who has also now left Darlington, and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club.

Scarborough boss Steve Kittrick said: “Leon impressed me when I saw him while at Guiseley, he's a strong midfielder and a leader, and to get him in is an excellent signing for us.

“I'm still a bit puzzled why Darlington let him go to be honest, but that is great news for us.”

Scott is the latest former Quaker to find a new club since the end of last season.

Tom Portas has joined West Auckland, Greg Mills has signed for Stourbridge while Brown, Chris Hunter and Phil Turnbull have gone to South Shields.

Darlington’s two summer signings so far have been striker Simon Ainge from Harrogate Town and former Cambridge United midfielder Liam Hughes with a goalkeeper next on the wanted list.

Meanwhile, striker Graeme Armstrong, who left Darlington two years ago, has today signed for Hebburn Town. He was most recently with South Shields.
