FORMER Darlington forward Wilson Kneeshaw has joined promotion rivals Blyth Spartans, the club against which he impressed on his Quakers debut in November.

The 22-year-old was told by Quakers boss Martin Gray that he was surplus to requirements following Darlington’s league win at Blyth on December 28.

Kneeshaw took part in the warm-up, but was not part of the match day squad at Croft Park after falling out of favour.

Having been on trial with Darlington last summer, he finally joined his hometown club in November and made his debut on November 10 in an Integro Doodson Cup tie at Blyth, scoring in a 2-1 win and putting in a display that led to him starting Quakers’ next three matches.

However, he was unable to maintain his good form from his first game and did not feature in either of Darlington’s last two fixtures at Hyde and Blyth.

Speaking to the Blyth website, Kneeshaw said: “I’m delighted to sign for the club and really looking forward to getting started with my Spartans career.

“The club are obviously doing well in the league and I’m hoping I can help the Spartans continue this good run.”

Manager Tom Wade added: “I’m delighted to get Wilson on board. He had a great game in the League Cup and he gives us options up front. The timing of the signing is also helpful with Nipa (Dan Maguire) and Sean Reid carrying knocks.”
