Spennymoor Town have landed Darlington defender Ian Watson on an 18-month deal.

Watson recently lost his place in the Quakers'# side and asked to leave the club, meaning Moors' boss Jason Ainsley moved quickly.

Ainsley said: "Ian is someone who I have known for a long time and I am delighted to have him on board. He fits the bill for us as he is can play anywhere down the left and the added bonus is he knows a lot of our players and won't have any problems settling in.

"He is also used to the travelling having played in the Evo Stik Premier for both Blyth and Darlington and was a fans favourite at both clubs.  I think Ian is now in the best shape of his career and getting him on a free was an opportunity we couldn't turn down.''

Watson admitted: "I am really pleased to have signed for Spennymoor Town. It's the perfect fit for me as I know the manager and the chairman really well and know a lot of the lads already."

I share the same ambitions as the club in terms of climbing up the leagues and hopefully that starts this season, I'd like to think I had success at my previous two clubs where I learnt a lot and progressed as a player so I'm joining Spennymoor at a good time as I believe I'm in my peak years.

"I hope Darlington and Blyth both have great seasons as they have really nice people involved in both clubs but it's all about Spennymoor for me now and can't wait to get started.''
