CATTERICK Golf Club hosted the first SpeedGolf competition to be held in the region.

The game combines running and golfing expertise as competitors aim to get around the course in the quickest time with the lowest score. The winner is the competitor with the lowest combined score and time.

Club Captain Brian de la Haye said: “This is a great sport to attract those looking to challenge themselves athletically as well as with their golfing skill and competitors are constantly having to decide what trade-off they will go for between speed and care over the shots.”

With entrants in three categories, men, juniors and seniors, a fast pace was set by all and the winner of the men’s category was Steven Farnworth with a golf score of nett 69 and time of 70 minutes.

In the junior category, George Catterall of Catterick, was winner with a golf score of nett 80 and a time of 62 minutes and in the senior category (over 55), James Barker of Catterick had a score of nett 92 and a time of 87 minutes.

Steven Farnworth said: “What a fantastic day, I will definitely enter it again.”
