MO FARAH has pulled out of his first scheduled race since the London Marathon on Sunday.

The 31-year-old was due to compete in the Bupa London 10,000, a 10km road race in the capital, but has decided he is not yet ready to return to action.

Farah’s agent Ricky Simms said in a statement: “Mo has decided not to compete in the Bupa London 10,000 because he is not yet ready to race after the London Marathon. He took a few weeks off training, went on holiday and just resumed jogging 10 days ago. He’s looking forward to being a guest at the events.”

The world and Olympic champion over 5,000 and 10,000 metres struggled on his marathon debut on April 13, coming home in eighth place.

His focus is now back on regaining his track speed and winning his first Commonwealth title after confirming last week he would take part in the Games in Glasgow. He has yet not announced over which distance or distances he will race at Hampden Park, with the 1500m, 5,000m and 10,000m all possibilities.

Farah’s only other confirmed outing so far this summer is at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix on July 12.

RUGBY UNION: Newcastle Falcons new boy Juan Pablo Socino has been named Championship Player of the Season.

The Argentinian centre has signed a two-year contract with Falcons after leaving Rotherham Titans, who he helped to the Championship play-offs, where they lost to Bristol.

Socino finished as the leading points scorer in the Championship, and was honoured at an awards ceremony in London last night.

“It’s amazing, I never thought it was on the cards,” said the 25-year-old. “It was such a massive surprise. It is a huge honour and the fact that it was voted for by my fellow players make it even more special.

“I am now looking forward to starting a new chapter with Newcastle - it’s a dream come true. I came to the UK four years ago chasing the dream of playing professional rugby, and I just can’t wait to get stuck in.”
