CONNOR Wickham reminded Martin O'Neill of his attacking capabilities as Newcastle and Sunderland shared the spoils in tonight's reserves derby at St James' Park.

Wickham, who is expected to leave Sunderland on loan in the next few weeks, scored twice, with Brad Inman and Adam Campbell finding the target for Newcastle in a 2-2 draw.

Both sides named strong line-ups, with Dan Gosling, Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi featuring for Newcastle and Louis Saha, Ji Dong-won, David Vaughan and Matt Kilgallon joining Wickham in the Black Cats' line-up.

Wickham opened the scoring in the ninth minute, converting Billy Knott's low cross, but Newcastle levelled shortly after when Inman tapped into an empty net after Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford failed to gather a cross.

The hosts claimed the lead ten minutes before the break as Campbell drove home via a deflection off John Egan, but Wickham scored his second goal early in the second half, reacting quickest to a right-wing cross.
