NEWCASTLE are ready to pull the plug on their long-running pursuit of Mathieu Debuchy unless Lille reduce their valuation of the full-back.

Debuchy is desperate to force through a move to Tyneside and failed to attend a scheduled training session on Saturday morning.

Lille officials turned down Newcastle's initial £4m offer earlier this month, and informed their counterparts on Tyneside they would not be entering into further discussions until they had secured a replacement for the 26-year-old.

That happened yesterday when Lille agreed a deal with Troyes for 19-year-old right-back Djibril Sidibe.

However, Lille are refusing to lower their £8m valuation of Debuchy and the Newcastle hierarchy are unwilling to go that high.

A series of discussions have failed to produce a compromise, and Magpies managing director Derek Llambias is ready to turn his attention elsewhere if Lille continue to hold out for their desired fee.

While Debuchy has long been Newcastle's preferred right-back target, other names are under consideration and a switch of emphasis is expected if the current deadlock extends to the end of the week.

There is undoubtedly an element of brinkmanship to both sides' stance, but there is also a shared desire to strike an acceptable deal.

The current impasse will be a source of frustration to Alan Pardew, although the Magpies manager accepts the need to stick to a pre-agreed budget with all of his club's transfer dealings this summer.

"The two clubs need to make an agreement on the finance side about the players we're talking about," said Pardew. "Unfortunately, there's no agreement at the moment."

The same is true of Newcastle's ongoing pursuit of Andy Carroll. Liverpool continue to insist that Carroll will not be leaving Anfield on loan, and that they will only consider bids above £20m for a permanent transfer.

Newcastle's initial offer was for a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer worth around £12m next summer, and there has not been a renewed approach at this stage.

Further discussions are likely, but Llambias is ready to wait and see how much success Brendan Rodgers has as he attempts to integrate Carroll into Liverpool's North American tour.

With Carroll's future still uncertain, Newcastle have been linked with France international Loic Remy in recent days.

However, while there was an initial inquiry to Marseille officials about the 25-year-old, the Magpies have opted not to take their tentative interest any further.
