ALAN PARDEW faces missing out on his two main transfer targets of the summer unless Newcastle United agree to pay in excess of £20m for Luuk de Jong and Mathieu Debuchy.

Newcastle have been rebuffed in their attempts to land both de Jong and Debuchy quickly and are having to weigh up their next move.

Newcastle are determined to drive a hard-bargain after having bids of £8m and £4m rejected for the respective players.

But with both Twente and Lille adamant they will not be allowing either international to depart for Tyneside on the cheap then negotiations look far from reaching a positive end.

Twente boss Steve McClaren fears he could be forced to sell de Jong this summer, but is keen to receive the club's valuation of him.

Sources close to the Enschede outfit are adamant they will not allow their star striker - who scored 24 goals in 25 appearances last season - to leave for less than £15m.

Borussia Moenchengadbach and Bayern Munich have also been in touch to express their interest, with the Holland international thought to be open to the idea of playing in Germany or the Premier League.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Benfica have all been credited with an interest too, which has strengthened Twente's hand in resisting Newcastle's initial offer for the player.

But Newcastle - who learned yesterday that another of their attacking options, Wigan's Victor Moses, has been the subject of a rejected bid from Chelsea - are determined to bring in a new striker.

It is by no means clear where Demba Ba will be at the start next season, with Newcastle expecting clubs to try to take advantage of a £7m release clause in his contract.

But with Leon Best and Nile Ranger available on the back of Peter Lovenkrands' departure, Pardew is only convinced Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi will be two of his striker options next season.

Defensively there is also a need to bring in fresh faces, with Debuchy the preferred candidate to come in to replace Danny Simpson at right-back.

But French club Lille are also determined to receive their highest price for the 26-year-old. After rejecting Newcastle's £4m offer it was claimed last night that Chelsea have also had an offer knocked back.

The Blues are keen to replace Jose Bosingwa, who is set to become a free agent, with Debuchy, while Inter Milan are also being kept informed about the defender's situation.

The France right-back has been one of his country's best performers at Euro 2012 and has been told he will not be leaving Lille unless a more acceptable offer arrives.

Interest from around Europe has grown in him in the last few weeks. Paris St Germain and Bayern are also keeping tabs on his situation.

But Lille coach Rudi Garcia mocked Newcastle's bid for the player yesterday, with Newcastle being asked to at least double their offer for him.

Garcia said: "I do believe that Newcastle have faxed an offer of £4m - but they must have the wrong player! He is torn between staying with us and playing in the Champions League in our new stadium or going elsewhere.

"If he does go and it is a sporting progression then we will be happy to see him evolve. But we have not planned to replace him."

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is keen to only sign players if he believes they offer good value for money and have a decent chance of increasing in value.

Chief scout Graham Carr has recommended a number of players to Pardew, so talks inside St James' Park will be aimed at plotting their next move.

If Newcastle opt against matching Lille's valuation they could step up their interest in Crystal Palace's England Under-21 international Nathaniel Clyne. Clyne is set to become a free agent, but a tribunal would determine how much he would cost.
