Friday's evening meeting at Ripon has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

The North Yorkshire circuit has been hit by substantial rain over the past 24 hours and after staging a 3pm inspection, clerk of the course James Hutchinson has been left with no option but to call off proceedings.

He said: ''It has done nothing but rain all day, so we've had 30 millimetres of rain overnight and today.

''That brings it to about seven inches of rain in the last five weeks and the ground is just too inconsistent to make it safe.

''The forecast suggests there is further rain to come and we just feel it isn't going to come right in time.

''An early call was the best thing for everybody concerned.''
