WITH a goal on his return to the side, Adam Boyd has lived up to his vow to manager Mick Wadsworth.

Boyd, who netted for the reserves last week, scored the leveller as Hartlepool United went on to beat Yeovil at Victoria Park.

With five games to go this season, Boyd, who has spent the majority of the season on the bench, has promised a goal a game.

"Boydy's got that in his locker and if the ball drops to him in the box he is as good as anyone around, no doubt about that - he was the right choice for the game,'' said Wadsworth.

"By and large we have been proved right with team selection. We have played a running game this season and a lot of what we have had to do is to cater for our ability to score through more than just the front men.

"It's been tough for him, but it's been tough for the likes of (Denis) Behan and (Michael) Mackay as well.

"Adam has promised me a goal a game to the end of the season so he's been as good as his word so far! But I have to look at a totally and comprehensively different kind of game next weekend at Sheffield Wednesday.

"But he's done well. His touch was good and held the ball up well, which he hasn't done during the season, it's been frustrating for him.

"I've players who are playing for their futures and that's the way it should be."

Wadsworth has hinted he will use the remaining games to experiment with his side and introduce some of his squad players to the first-team, but he has set his side a target.

"I would think these points make us safe, but we may have been anyway,'' he said. "But we are never satisfied, we want to get to 60 points, which would mean a real progressive season and we still have five games to play to get there.''
