BLAYDON are hoping that the winding-up order served this week on Cambridge will not prevent them from turning up for next Saturday’s match at Crow Trees.

As highlighted by the struggles of the Cornish clubs, the amount of travelling for National One games is adding to the heavy financial burden.

Cambridge are reported to have a very high wage bill for this level and there are rumours that the players haven’t been paid this season and are considering withdrawing their labour.

The winding-up order has been served by HM Customs and Revenue for a six-figure tax bill.

Blaydon are away to Cinderford today and retain Gavin Jones at No 8 as Jason Smithson rests a neck problem for another week.

Matt Green comes in for Keith Laughlin at blind side.

The top match in the division sees new leaders Blackheath visit Tynedale, who lost top spot when they drew at Launceston last week.

The Murray brothers return with Andrew at lock and Jamie at No 8, which means Phil Dawson reverts to blind side.

Ex-Blaydon and Consett prop Andrew Harrison has not recovered from the injury which forced him off early on at Launceston, so former Westoe player Matt Shields comes in at tight head. Hamish Smales stays at centre as Ben Duncan has a calf injury.

There is also a top-of-thetable battle in National Three North, with thirdplaced Darlington Mowden Park visiting leaders Chester.

“I’ve had a good look at them and they seem to blow hot and cold,” said Mowden coach Pete Taylor. They beat Lymm by a similar scoreline to us. It’s too early in the season to build it up, but it will be a good test to see where we are.”

Skipper Danny Brown returns at hooker so Andrew Tonkin switches to the back row, where James Knox is unavailable. Graeme Seddon will move across to No 8.

Mowden have won their three games since losing the opener by one point against Penrith, whose results have been very unpredictable.

They visit Billingham, who have Craig Shepherd at full back with Peter Evans at fly half and his brother Joe at centre.

North One East leaders West Hartlepool go to Morpeth, who have won their two home games. Anth Carr, Adam Larkin and Scott Jordan are unavailable for West, who have Peter Hodgson back at centre. Stu Waites is at full back and Simon Cavey comes in on the wing.

Former England Counties lock Richard Snowball returns for Darlington’s home match against Ashington after missing the defeat at Stockton.

Joe Hargreaves is rested, so Bill Smith switches to prop and the 6ft 8in Chris Oakley is in the squad for the first time this season, providing bench cover for Snowball. Fijian back row man Sami Soni is again on the bench, but Aquila Tutora is unavailable, so Warren Peterson reverts to the wing with Henry Carver returning at full back and Cameron Mitchell at centre.

■ Durham University stage two attractive games tomorrow, with the first team playing the Army Under 23s at Hollow Drift at 4pm. The seconds will kick off at 2.15 against the Duke of Wellington Regiment, who are expected to include two Durham graduates in hooker Alex Whitaker and lock Ben Redshaw.

The university has a new Director of Rugby in Alex Keay, a former Moseley player whose extensive coaching career includes a spell with Saracens.
