REDCAR’S big day of the year today features one of Europe’s richest races for twoyear- olds in the totepool trophy, over the six-furlong trip.

With over £130,000 on offer for the winner it is not surprising to see a maximum field of 23 chasing the prize.

Horses are travelling from all parts of the country, but one of the Yorkshire runners has a massive chance at the weights.

Ladies Are Forever, trained just outside Malton by Geoff Oldroyd, has run only twice in her short career but has made a good impression on both starts.

After landing a few nice bets at Beverley first time out, the well-bred filly went on to finish a respectable third in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

Her brother Hoof It has done well for Mick Easterby this term and Ladies Are Forever is receiving weights from all her rivals due to the conditions of the race.

If it were a handicap she would have to concede over a stone to most of the field.

Dingle View, a winner of a Group 3 at the Curragh last time out, will be a danger.

But Ladies Are Forever having only 7st 12lb on her back can make the difference, and the fact that top lightweight jockey Silvestre De Sousa, who is closing in on his 100th winner of the season, is booked to take the ride is another big plus.

There is also good prize money up for grabs in the John Smith’s Straight-Mile Championship at 2.45.

Eleven horses, who have qualified at this track at some point this season, face the starter and a chance is taken with Right Grand, one of the three-year-olds in the line-up.

Trained at Newmarket by the in-form William Haggas, Right Grand has only had three starts on turf and you feel this has been his target for some time.

He must go close in his first time blinkers against some exposed rivals and the booking of Neil Callan is also taken as a positive move as he was onboard when a good second earlier in the summer.

The Totesport.com Cambridgeshire takes centre stage at Newmarket with 35 runners to sort out.

Another in-form trainer, John Gosden, has a phenomenal record in the race, winning it three times out of the last four runnings.

He has another great chance here with his three runners including the favourite Nationalism, who is the mount of stable jockey William Buick.

At around 4-1 there isn’t that much value and in a race like this I like to go with something improving and in double figures in the market.

The horse that fits the bill for me is the three-year-old Start Right, who comes from the Luca Cumani yard, another trainer who knows what it takes to win this contest, and ridden by Kieren Fallon.

Twice a winner this season, he remains at the right end of the weights, and at the right price.
