ABERDEEN have pulled out of the running to sign Evan Horwood, leaving the route clear for the left-back to sign for Hartlepool United.

Horwood has been on trial at Victoria Park and is expected to play in tomorrow’s home friendly with Leeds United.

But he headed to Scotland a fortnight ago and impressed Dons’ boss Mark McGhee to the extent he was offered terms.

Hartlepool-born Horwood then headed to Holland on tour with Pools and has remained with the club this week.

“There are two or three we hope to join us o tour outside of this group (of trialists),’’ said McGhee.

“I wanted to look at Grant Basey and Robbie Williams so it looks like Horwood is no longer in my thinking.

“He had a couple of days up here and seemed to enjoy himself, but we don’t know if he’s coming back.

He might sign for Hartlepool.’’ Ritchie Humphreys, Adam Boyd and James Brown are all suffering from injury and are doubts for tomorrow’s game.
