Sunderland defender Michael Turner will miss the first two games of next season after the FA extend his one-match ban.

The 26-year-old was dismissed on the final day of the season in the Black Cats' 2-1 defeat at Wolves last Sunday for a second bookable offence.

The FA has decided to extend the ban due to the player being sent off against Manchester City earlier in the season, with two red cards in one campaign activating a two-game ban as opposed to the standard one for being shown two yellow cards.

Turner served an extended four-match ban in the wake of a failed appeal against his dismissal against City in December.

Jack Colback, also dismissed on Sunday, will serve a one-match ban.
