AFTER enjoying their best run of home form of the season in recent weeks, Hartlepool United want to end their Victoria Park programme in style tomorrow.

Exeter City, three places and four points behind with two games remaining, are the visitors and Pools know that three points would secure League One status for next season whatever the outcome of next week’s hearings.

Pools face charges for playing Gary Liddle in the win over Brighton when he was suspended.

Defeat for Tranmere at home to promotion-chasing Millwall and a win for Pools would put them nine points ahead of Rovers with three to play for.

Pools have won five of their last six Victoria Park outings, scoring 15 goals in the process.

“You always want to end the season on a high and not for it to become a damp squib,’’ said manager Chris Turner.

“It’s important to win the last home game and send people away happy. Recent home games have been good and we want more like that.

“Consistency has been a problem all season, we want to end on a solid footing. If we get the job done on Saturday, it opens up a few possibilities for the last game of the season.

“But we want to end the second half of the season with a good home record and press on.

“Next up is Saturday’s game and what we always do at the club is sit down, talk about the season and where we need to improve on.

“We need to do better and be stronger to press on up the table next season.’’ He added: “This is, for us, is a chance for three points against a team below us in the League who we want to keep below us.

“We don’t have to win our last two games (to be safe), but we want to of course. Next week’s situation will be spoken about after events take place. We are six clear of Tranmere and want to go nine. We look above and can catch Carlisle and Brighton. If we play like we have been at home, no problem.’’
