HARTLEPOOL United have been hit by a Football Association charge for fielding an ineligible player.

Gary Liddle's tenth booking of the season in last Saturday's win at Leyton Orient meant a two-game suspension.

But the central defender appeared in Easter Monday's win over Brighton at Victoria Park.

He now sits out today's game at Wycombe and Tuesday's home game with Stockport. He has also been charged by the FA.

A club statement read: “As soon as the error was realised the club contacted the FA immediately and they served two charges, one to the club and one to Gary Liddle.

“The club has been given until April 26 to respond to the charges.''

FA disciplinary rules changed this season, meaning players suspended for collecting a set number of cautions are banned immediately.

There is the possibililty of a points deduction if found guilty, or, more likely, a fine being administered.
