AFTER finally ending their horrendous run away from Victoria Park, there’s a new outlook among the Hartlepool United squad.

A sequence of ten successive away losses and a draw was ended with last weekend’s victory at Orient.

The 3-1 result was followed up with a second triumph, as Pools saw off Brighton at Victoria Park on Easter Monday.

Pools this morning set off for Wycombe Wanderers, where they tomorrow try to increase the gap between themselves and the drop zone, which is currently four points.

A return tomorrow would also peg second-bottom Wanderers further back and, with bottom-placed Stockport to go to Victoria Park next Tuesday, Pools have a chance to secure their status for the season.

Club captain Ritchie Humphreys admitted all the players are focused on is their own displays.

“Of course you look at other results, but first and foremost it’s about your own and what you do,’’ he said.

“Towards the back end of the season beating teams in and around you is vital.

“We sat and watched the Tranmere game last Friday (against Norwich), it was on in the hotel as we went down for dinner.

“Results are thrown up like that – a team 11 points clear loses to a team in the bottom four. It put us in the bottom four and we knew the situation, but we had a job to do and whatever situation we are in, we want to go out and play like we did over the weekend.

“We all know our away form hasn’t been very good, we have to do better, like we did last weekend at Orient and it’s a vital time for us.

“We knew we had to win at least once away from home, we had to improve and we’ve known that for a while.’’ Pools have fielded an experienced side in the last two games, and been rewarded with six points from six.

Central defender Gary Liddle is suspended tomorrow after racking up his tenth booking of the season last Saturday.

He will be replaced by Ben Clark and Humphreys admitted: “Experience in this situation is important and we were very solid. We needed each other and everyone will be needed in the coming games.

“We’ve beat Southend, Carlisle and Orient of late – we know where we are and we have been in the position because we have been one of the worst teams in the division.

We know the table doesn’t lie.

“We are capable of producing better performances and getting a better return.

“Last week was an example of a strong away display when we didn’t open them up with beautiful football. We were strong, organised and resolute.’’
