COUNTY Durham racing driver Amanda Whitaker took a large collection of silverware home from the annual British Women Racing Drivers Club awards last weekend.

Whitaker, from Newton Aycliffe, was once again the most prolific winner of the evening, being awarded four trophies: The Hillwood Jewellers Coupe des Dames Trophy for the member with the most wins and lap records, The Goodwin Trophy for first place in the overall BWRDC Championship, The Monoposto Trophy for the highest placed BWRDC single seater competitor and The Embassy Trophy for the overall BWRDC Champion of the year - for a record fifth time.

Presenting the trophies was Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, holder of the World Land Speed Record.

Whitaker will be racing in Formula Ford again this season in select races in her Elden Mk 8 and 93 Swift.
