HULL hero Dean Windass remains fully committed to the Tigers despite interest from other clubs, according to his representative.

The veteran striker appears to be out of favour again at the KC Stadium, after being left out of the squad for the last two games.

Windass has not even made the bench since the 5-1 thrashing by Manchester City on Boxing Day, when he was taken off at half-time following manager Phil Brown’s now infamous on-pitch teamtalk.

The 39-year-old voiced his displeasure at that decision last week, saying: “I have to say it hurt. I felt like I was an easy target to take off and was being made the scapegoat for our first-half performance.”

There appeared to be further friction between Windass and Brown over the weekend as the manager used his newspaper column to express his disappointment at recent remarks by the player on a different matter.

Windass had criticised the standard of a pitch used at local non-League club Winterton Rangers for a training match.

Yet despite being linked with Leeds, Grimsby and Hartlepool this season, Windass is happy to fight for his place at his hometown club.

Nicola Benn, of the player’s representatives First Artist Management, said: “A few clubs have shown an interest, but at the moment he is still needed there and is an important part of the squad.”

When asked about potential problems with Brown, she added: “There has been a little – but not enough to be actively looking to leave.”

Windass has made just five Premier League appearances this season, coming off the bench for all but the one at Eastlands.

It has been quite a comedown for the former Aberdeen, Bradford and Middlesbrough forward after his heroics last year – which included scoring the winner in the Championship play-off final.

Hull, meanwhile, must find a new kit for their FA Cup third-round replay at Newcastle next week.

Both their black-and-amber first choice and grey away strips clash with the Magpies’ black and white stripes.

They had to borrow a set of white shorts and socks from the hosts when the sides last met at St James’ Park in September.

“We have got a massive problem – we don’t have a third-choice strip,” said Brown.

“We can’t wear our home kit and we can’t wear our away.

We hope Umbro can come up with something.”
