How did the players fare in Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United?

MAN UTD (4-2-3-1):

Onana 6; Wan-Bissaka 6, Casemiro 5, Evans 6, Dalot 6; Mainoo 8 (Martinez 82), Amrabat 7; AMAD 8 (Hojlund 82), McTominay 6, Garnacho 7 (Rashford 82); Fernandes 7 (Eriksen 89).

Subs (not used): Bayindir (gk), Kambwala, Forson, Collyer, Antony.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):

5 Dubravka: Made a couple of decent saves, but should have done better with Hojlund’s shot into the corner

4 Trippier: Didn’t look fit as he made his first start for two months and was badly positioned as he played Mainoo onside for the opener

5 Krafth: Tried his best at centre-half, but struggled to cope with the intensity of Manchester United’s attacking

5 Burn: Almost scored with a header that was cleared off the line, and failed to close down Hojlund for the third goal

6 Hall: A mixed night defensively, but got forward effectively on a number of occasions and scored with an excellent stoppage-time strike

5 Longstaff: Wasted a glorious opportunity when he went clean through in the second half but shot straight at Onana

7 Guimaraes: Held the Newcastle midfielder for much of the evening and was always trying to get his side onto the front foot

5 Anderson: Couldn’t really get into the game during his hour on the field – it was no surprise to see him make way midway through the second half

6 Murphy: Made some useful breaks down the right-hand side and delivered the driven cross that resulted in Gordon’s equaliser

6 Isak: Got into some decent positions, but should probably have scored with the shot that deflected off Amrabat and hit the crossbar

8 GORDON: Troubled the Manchester United defence all night and claimed his 11th league goal with an excellent first-time finish

Subs:

6 Joelinton (for Anderson, 62): Came close with a looped header that Onana tipped over the crossbar

5 Almiron (for Murphy, 62): Came within inches of scoring as he slid in at the back post following a cross from Gordon

5 Schar (for Trippier, 62): Would surely have started had he been fit enough to last for a full 90 minutes

Barnes (for Longstaff, 77)

(not used): Pope (gk), Dummett, A Murphy, Ritchie, White.

Man Of The Match: AMAD DIALLO – Scored with a superb strike and has been one of Manchester United’s few bright lights in the second half of the season.
