MARK WOOD has signed a new two-year deal with Durham that commits him to Seat Unique Riverside until at least the end of the 2024 season.

The England fast bowler has committed his future to his home county, and will continue to combine his domestic duties with international career across all formats of the game.

The Ashington born seamer, who is currently playing for England at the T20 World Cup in Australia, made his Durham debut in 2011 and has gone on to make 76 appearances for thge county.

He was part of Durham’s 2013 County Championship winning side, contributing with 27 wickets during that campaign and starring in a crucial win over Surrey as he claimed figures of 5-44.

Since making his Durham debut, the 32-year-old has gone on to impress for England in all formats recording speeds of 97mph during that time.

The Northern Echo: Mark Wood was the star of the show again in Pakistan.

Injuries restricted Wood from representing Durham in 2022, but his hostile spell against Warwickshire in 2021 helped Durham to an innings and 127 run win over the 2021 County champions.

Wood said: “I am really happy to be signing for another two years with Durham. I love playing here and whenever I get the chance to come back and play for the club it gives me great excitement.

“Whether it is stepping on the field with Durham or England, it is always a special moment to be back home, I’ll be looking forward to helping Durham win cricket matches in the near future, whenever I get the chance to put the shirt back on.”

Durham director of cricket, Marcus North, said: “It is great news that Woody has reconfirmed his commitment to Durham for a further two years.

"Although due to his international commitments we may not see him too often, whenever he does play for the club his influence on and off the field is extremely valuable.

"His passion for Durham is infectious and we look forward to seeing him representing Durham at some point during the next two seasons."
