Gareth Barry admitted it will be ''a dream come true'' if he completes a remarkable turnaround in his England fortunes by captaining the side in Sunday's international away to Trinidad and Tobago.

Barry is a front-line contender to follow in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry and be given a chance to skipper England by coach Fabio Capello.

The majority of the players who appeared in the Champions League final will not be participating in the final international of the season which will enhance Barry's chances of taking the armband.

Barry again demonstrated his ability by setting up the second goal for Gerrard during Wednesday's 2-0 win over the United States at Wembley.

The Aston Villa midfielder was part of England's Euro 2000 squad but was virtually frozen out by Sven-Goran Eriksson. But former boss Steve McClaren opted to make the 27-year-old a regular this season and Barry said: ''It is everyone's dream to captain their country but I'll take it all with a pinch of salt.

''There have been a few phone calls and a few things in the media but it is everyone's dream if it does happen. Even this season, the England form has been a great turnaround for me."

Revised England squad: David James (Portsmouth), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Joe Lewis (Peterborough), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Stephen Warnock (Blackburn), David Wheater (Middlesbrough), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), David Bentley (Blackburn), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Dean Ashton (West Ham), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth).
