SHOLA AMEOBI'S future at Newcastle United took a step nearer to reaching an end this afternoon when he was given permission to go out on loan.
The former England Under-21 international has joined Stoke City until the end of the season.
And with manager Kevin Keegan expected to make big moves in the transfer market this summer, Ameobi looks certain to be one of permanent departures.
Norwich City had also been interested in taking Ameobi to Carrow Road, where he would have teamed up again with former boss Glenn Roeder.
But it is the move to Championship title contenders Stoke City which proved most attractive.
Ameobi has made 229 appearances for Newcastle, including 95 as a substitute, and has scored 46 goals.
