HARTLEPOOL United’s Omar Bogle believes there is more to come  opening his account for the club with the striker a couple of games away from full fitness.

Bogle scored his first goal for the club by putting Pools 3-1 up against Barrow in Tuesday night’s League Two win at the Suit Direct Stadium.

The 29-year-old signed a two-and-a-half year deal last month after mutually terminating his contract at League One side Doncaster Rovers. Bogle endured a difficult spell in Yorkshire scoring just three goals in 28 appearances and featuring just 11 times this season.

He’s a striker that has a lot of pedigree and experience under his belt having played and scored for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic. Manager Graeme Lee has already placed a lot of faith in the striker starting him in the last three games which is the length of time it’s taken for him to open his account.

Bogle spoke to the Northern Echo about his start with Pools and believes games will only bring the best out of him.

He said: “General fitness is good because I kept myself in good shape, good condition and worked hard even though I hadn’t been playing this season but it’s just that match sharpness.

“You can’t really replicate it anywhere else really. That just comes with the games.

“Now I’ve played 70 minutes at Exeter, 90 minutes on Saturday and another 80 minutes today so I’m hoping that in the next two or three games, I’m going to be where I need to be.

“That transition is a big transition and when you’re not playing games as much or not at all, it’s obviously hard. You can always work hard in training day in and day out and do extras but like I said, to replicate the match fitness and the match sharpness, you can’t do it unless you are playing games.

“I feel like I haven’t had that for a while where I’ve been playing games and scoring goals again so that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“Obviously that feeling that I’ve had tonight (against Barrow) is great and I just want to keep it going.”

Bogle is likely to be involved again when Pools return to League Two action this weekend when they make the long trip to face Crawley.

They currently sit 15th in the table and nine points above the relegation zone.
