A DARLINGTON teenager has become Darlington Golf Club Champion, exactly 32 years since his father lifted the same trophy.

At aged 18, Jack Atkinson, is one of the youngest ever to win the championship.

Jack’s father, Stephen, lifted the same trophy in 1989 and it is believed to be the only father/son combination to win the prestigious championship.

Jack, of Yoredale Avenue, Darlington attends Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.

The accolade is one of a string of Jack’s sporting achievements, including being the youngest winner in 2018 of the Darlington Golf Club Blaylock Cup and 2020 Darlington Golf Junior Champion.

Jack also plays cricket for Darlington and badminton for Hummersknot.

He said: "I’m very pleased to have won this championship, following in my father’s footsteps and collecting the trophy. Golf is very much part of my life and I really enjoy playing.’

Dad Stephen said: "His mum Jill and I are very proud of Jack. To have lifted the trophy I won more than 30 years ago is amazing."
