Spennymoor Town manager Jason Ainsley is hoping for a change in fortune against Darlington on Tuesday night.

Moors have yet to taste victory against Quakers in a league game in either the Northern League, EvoStik League or National League North, and Ainsley is hoping that run will end tonight.

“We’ve been the better team at times against Darlington, but still not won, so I’ll settle for the reverse tonight!” he said. “There have been occasions when I thought that we were going to win, but have either drawn or lost right at the death. Darlington have had the edge in previous games, so we need to turn that around.

“There’ll be a big crowd inside the Brewery Field tonight, it will be a great occasion, and it is the sort of game that we look forward to in this league. There over 2,000 in the ground at Chester last weekend, and hopefully there’ll be at least 1,500 tonight.

“We’ll be going into the game in good spirits. I thought we played well at times at Chester on Saturday, and deserved a draw, maybe even a win because we created some very good chances. I think some of the Chester supporters hadn’t heard of us before the game, but they certainly had afterwards.”

Ainsley has reshaped his squad during the summer, with four out of Saturday’s back five all signed during the summer, and only James Curtis the survivor from last season.

“I was delighted with a clean sheet on Saturday, we looked solid, and when he was called upon, Jonathan Gould made some good saves.”

Ainsley still has an injury doubt over winger Ryan Hall, who has a calf strain, while he could add a new signing from Northern League to his squad in time for the game.
