MATTHEW BATES is to be confirmed as the new Hartlepool United manager.
The caretaker boss - after taking charge of the last 13 games of the National league season - has been picked by chairman Raj Singh and director of football Craig Hignett to lead the club into next season.
Bates won five of his games in charge, ending the season with an impressive victory at Tranmere Rovers on the final day of the season.
His appointment - to be confirmed either today or tomorrow - will see Ged McNamee and Ross Turnbull join him as assistants after the pair worked for free to help out in recent weeks.
