ROY Keane has pledged to make "two or three" more signings after his Sunderland side slumped to their opening pre-season defeat on Saturday.

The Black Cats lost 1-0 at League One champions Scunthorpe and, while Keane took his squad on a four-day training break to Portugal this morning, he is determined to step up his recruitment drive.

"By the time we get to Ireland (on Friday) we hope to have another two or three faces added to the squad and that will give an added challenge to the players already here," said Keane.

"The players will be disappointed (at Saturday's defeat), as are the staff and myself. But in football you just have to move on."

Sunderland fell behind in the second minute at Glanford Park, with Nyron Nosworthy losing possession as he attempted to dribble out of defence and Martin Paterson sweeping the loose ball into the net.

The Black Cats created little despite the presence of new signings Michael Chopra and Dickson Etuhu, although Daryl Murphy struck the base of the left-hand post in the 76th minute.
