ROBBIE Elliott is looking forward to a more sedate life at Victoria Park after swapping financially-embarrassed Leeds United for Hartlepool United.

And the defender, who revealed he is still owed money by the Elland Road club, believes he is in for an exciting season at his new club, at the same the time as his previous team-mates are unsure if they will start the season.

"The Leeds lads haven't been paid since I think it's April and I'm still owed wages myself,'' admitted the former Sunderland and Newcastle United defender.

"It's a worrying time for them and I know a couple of them in that situation and they don't know what is happening, because they can't actually sign until everything has been lifted.

"It's an awkward time but that's unfortunately part of the problem with Leeds at the minute.''

Pools are due to go to Elland Road on September 8, before hosting the fallen giants on Boxing Day at Victoria Park and Elliott, who was followed to Victoria Park from Leeds by striker Ian Moore, admitted: "The Leeds games stands out for a couple of us in the squad and it will be an interesting time.

"Who knows if we will be allowed through the gates at the minute, it's that touchy at the club.

"I still keep in touch with a couple of the lads and it's scary what has happened to that club - it's a tragedy really.''

And while his former players are facing an uncertain season, Elliott is confident of a more sedate time at his new club.

Pools owners IOR Ltd have brought financial security and off-field professionalism to Victoria Park, stark contrast to the troubles at Elland Road.

"Hartlepool have got great backing, the manager said to me that you are treated very well here, you don't want for anything,'' he said.

"It's the small things that make players happy. It might sound materialistic, but it's the likes of the hotels you are stopping in, you aren't scrimping and scraping.

"The chairman will go that extra step to help the players out and they responded last year and no doubt they will do the same this year.''

Elliott made his Pools bow as a substitute in Tuesday's friendly with Newcastle and will travel to Holland for a seven-day training camp with his new side tomorrow.

Ex-Aberdeen striker Andrew Bagshaw has been on trial at Pools this week and and boss Danny Wilson admitted: "There's a possibility I'll invite Andrew back next week and we'll have another look at him. He has potential but we've not made our minds up yet."

Former Pools keeper Jim Provett has been offered a contract at Bury after impressing on trial during pre-season.
