PADRAIG Amond, the wantaway Hartlepool United striker, has completed a move to Newport County.

After making himself unavailable for last weekend’s trip to Bromley, which he refuted after signing for the League Two club, the striker has been absent from the club and the training ground.

Newport, armed with the gate receipts from Tuesday’s League Cup defeat at Leeds, had a £40,000 bid accepted after having initial approaches rejected.

Amond has now completed the formalities of the deal after passing a medical on Tuesday.

Pools boss Craig Harrison, linked with a move for Motherwell’s former Gateshead and Darlington striker Ryan Bowman, speaking at this morning’s press conference admitted Amond has not wanted to be at the club all summer.

“The situation now is still where it was on Saturday,’’ said Harrison. “Unfortunately, Podge ruled himself out on Friday morning. There’s been no fireworks, or fall out. It’s just disappointing that professional people can act that way.

“There’s been no hiding from the fact that from day one since I came here, Podge has not wanted to be here.

“I spoke to him three or four days into the job – he told me he didn’t want to play in this league, didn’t want to play for Hartlepool.’’

Amond has one goal to his name this campaign and scored 14 times as Pools were relegated from the Football League last season - as the Exiles stayed up at Pools' expense.

He said: "I'm very pleased to have got (this deal done). It’s an exciting thing for me to be back in the Football League. Speaking to the manager, he has some very good plans for the club and I want to be part of it.”
