UNDER-FIRE York City boss Jackie McNamara is weighing up whether to carry on at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen’s poor start to the campaign continued when they lost 2-0 at high-flying Barrow and McNamara has criticised the players.

McNamara, who was unable to prevent relegation to the Conference last season, was annoyed after the latest reversal which saw Danny Livesey’s opener followed up by an own goal from defender Matt Fry.

He has not won an away game in his ten months in charge at York and having slipped closer to the Conference relegation zone he is considering his future.

McNamara said: “I’ve told the players that I am very, very frustrated. It’s all about the importance of performances and victories for myself, the chairman and the club, where we are just now, but I feel let down because, if it matters to you, you don’t lose your man at a corner, let him get across you and put a header in.

“You don’t do that if you feel the same way as the chairman and I do about the club and that’s something I need to look at in terms of my position, because I’m really disappointed. You’re trying to get through to them, but some of what we’re saying seems to go over the top of people’s heads.

“I believe we are capable of beating Barrow and winning every game in this division, but it’s getting that across to the players so they understand the importance of things because, if they don’t, I won’t be here.”

York: Letheren, Rooney (Robinson 53), Higgins, Fry, Whittle, Kamdjo, Heslop, Dixon, Connolly, Brodie (Murdoch 65), Wright (Felix 67). Subs (not used): Simpson, Fenwick.

NEIL ASPIN thinks Gateshead did not deserve to lose 3-0 at Aldershot – even if he was frustrated by his team’s wastefulness in front of goal.

The Shots made the most of their chances after half-time to wrap up the points after Wes York, Danny Johnson and Reece Styche all missed good opportunities for the Heed.

Gateshead have won just two of their last eight matches to drop down to mid-table having started by winning three from their opening four matches.

The latest defeat arrived courtesy of goals from Aldershot’s Iffy Allen, Matt McClure and Charlie Walker.

Gateshead boss Aspin said: “I don’t think the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game There were two key moments in the first half. We had a chance to take the lead – where we should have scored – and we should have had a penalty, which would have put us into a good position at half-time.

“Having said that, the defending for all three goals was very poor. The third one rubbed salt into the wounds. I’m frustrated more than anything else. We have had enough chances to score, and we’ve got into good areas several times, but our final ball was lacking.

“I think we have had more shots at goal, more corners and more chances than Aldershot but we’ve lost 3-0 and that’s the only statistic that matters.”

Gateshead: Hanford; Bolton, Smith, McLaughlin, Smith, Brundle (Styche 62), Hogan, Mafuta (Jones 64), Penn (Oates 79), York, Johnson. Subs (not used): Johnson, Bell.
