Spennymoor Town 3 Sutton Coldfield 0.

Spennymoor completed their second convincing victory in four days when they easily beat Sutton Coldfield 3-0 at the Brewery Field on Saturday.

Moors had to be patient for nearly an hour before they managed to successfully break down a packed Sutton defence, which kept ten men behind the ball while the scores were goalless.

“We tried hard not to get frustrated,” said manager Jason Ainsley. “We did get a little frustrated in the first half because we had created some good chances but couldn’t take them. I told the players to force things a little bit more and get behind their defence and when the first goal went in, there was always going to be only one team that was going to win.

“That’s two wins in four days now, and I can only be happy with that.”

Mark Anderson was outstanding and scored two of the goals. Ainsley said; “I thought he had a very good game, and he was at the centre of quite a few of our moves.”

Moors started where they left off in midweek against Warrington, and nearly scored through David Dowson on four minutes, when his ten yard shot was deflected wide.

On 20 minutes, Mark Anderson played a one-two with Dowson and forced Sutton keeper James Wren into a full length save, then he saved at close range from Dowson.

Craig Gott went narrowly close with a right foot shot from the corner of the box, as did Dowson with a header.

Moors keeper Andy Rafferty was a virtual spectator in the first 30 minutes, and his first real action was an outstanding save high to his right to push away a powerful left foot effort by Phil Trainer, who should have done better with his next opportunity that he put over unmarked from six yards out.

But Moors should have taken the lead just on half time when left back Louie Swain did well down the left and set up midfielder Rob Ramshaw, who blazed wide from ten yards.

The chances came again for Moors at the start of the second half, and just three minutes after the break James Curtis had a powerful shot blocked by Wren.

Moors finally broke through on 55 minutes with a good move down the right, and Dowson squared the ball for Anderson to rifle into the bottom right hand corner.

They were well in control on 63 minutes when Joe Tait scored from the spot after Craig Gott had his shirt pulled in the box.

Moors were now well on top, and sub Glen Taylor nearly scored a third with a glancing header from a left wing cross, then Tait headed just wide from a right wing corner.

There was then a delightful one touch move down the right which ended with Wren blocking Taylor’s low shot.

And it was 3-0 in the last minute when the outstanding Anderson cleverly tricked a defender on the edge of the box, and Wren couldn’t keep his right foot shot out.
