I might be a Chelsea fan but it’s always an honour to ride for the legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and hopefully we can lift the Qatar Stewards’ Cup with Red Kite this afternoon.

Sir Alex has a huge knowledge of racing and it’s always interesting to get his thoughts on the Premier League, but we’ll all be focussed on the job in hand on the final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

I’ve been on board for three of Red Pike's five wins and all the signs are there that he’s due to run a big race. Trainer Bryan Smart could not be happier with him and he looks a bigger and stronger horse this season.

The top of the ground will really suit him and the low draw in stall five is the place to be. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him as he looks a solid each-way proposition.

Gamesome runs in the Qatar Stewards’ Sprint Stakes – the consolation race for the Steward’s Cup.

Paul Midgely has been targeting this race for a while and Gamesome will really enjoy the track and fast pace as he likes something to aim at. His form stacks up and he’s got a cracking chance.

It was a truly sad start to the week when poor JT McNamara passed away.

JT was an incredibly gifted rider, but more important than that he was a true gentleman and by all accounts just a really nice guy. My thoughts are with his family, who will be going through a desperate time.

I am sure every jockey, past and present, would have been deeply affected by the news and it was the starkest reminder to us all of the perils of the sport.

We have split seconds to make decisions at high speeds and people should remember that this is a dangerous sport before they start slating us for a bad ride.

Easton Angel ran a terrific race in defeat in the Qatar King George Stakes at Goodwood on Friday. We had no luck in running – which can happen at Goodwood with the majority of the large field rolling towards the far rail.

She flew home once we gathered momentum and found a gap but it was all too late as we finished fourth to Take Cover, beaten less than half a length.

What she showed us was that she can mix at the very top level against seasoned sprinters and the Coolmore Nunthorpe looks the obvious target.
