ONLY four overs were bowled in the afternoon before the expected rain arrived and the match was abandoned at 3.30.

While Nottinghamshire would have been prepared to have a crack at bowling out Durham in 60 overs, once an hour had been lost a resumption became pointless.

Both sides would have been keen to get away in view of their Twenty20 clash at Chester-le-Street tomorrow evening.

Brendan Taylor will be looking forward to facing the Durham attack again, albeit a changed one, after completing his second century of the match.

Nottinghamshire batted on after lunch, adding 32 runs with Taylor reaching his century off 79 balls.

Unbeaten on 82 at lunch, with the side 344 ahead, Taylor pulled Borthwick for his fifth six then dabbed part-time bowler Mark Stoneman to third man to bring up his ton.

The Zimbabwean remained unbeaten on 105, while Borthwick equalled his best match haul of eight wickets when he had Samit Patel caught behind.

He had three for 73 in the second innings, which closed on 289 for five, a lead for the hosts of 376.
