DURHAM'S Scott Borthwick admitted last night that he would love to add to the one Test cap he won in Australia two years ago.

“I know my name keeps popping up and it's a dream to play more for England,” he said after adding an innings of 188 not out to his five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge.

“But I try not to think too much about it. I just want to keep getting better each year and keep on putting in good performances for Durham with bat and ball.

“I was picked for my one Test as a bowler, but we have always had four good seamers who have dominated at Durham and I've become more of a batsman since moving up to No 3. So I'm sure if I do get picked again it will be mainly as a batter.

“Last year I didn't quite get the big scores. I got out three times in the 90s, but now when I get there I'm determined to go on. It's the big hundreds which get you noticed.”

Borthwick paid tribute to Brydon Carse, who defied a foot injury to contribute 47 to a crucial stand.

“It was a very brave effort,” he said. “I was surprised how composed he was in a tricky situation. I knew he could strike the ball well, but that six he hit out of the ground off Samit Patel was an amazing shot. He's going to be a very good cricketer and will make a useful No 8.”
