DURHAM would be happy to take four wickets after losing the toss at Trent Bridge this morning.

Chris Rushworth, back from injury, grabbed the first two as Nottinghamshire slipped to 27 for three, then a stand of 66 was broken by James Weighell 15 minutes before the break.

The in-form Samit Patel fended the next ball just out short leg's reach and was on five at lunch, with Brendan Taylor on 27 out of 101 for four.

Barry McCarthy made way for Rushworth, but it looked as though Durham had left out the wrong man as Brydon Carse struggled.

His four overs cost 24 and he also sent two lots of four byes out of Michael Richardson's reach.

Taylor made only one off the first 19 balls he faced, but profited from Carse's lack of control, while Weighell continued the impressive form he showed at Edgbaston.

He needed all of his 6ft 4in to pluck a superb catch out of the air when Steve Mullaney middled a pull off Rushworth to mid-wicket.

That would be a relief to Scott Borthwick, who dropped Mullaney at second slip in Graham Onions' first over.

Jake Libby made 19 before shouldering arms to a ball from Rushworth which nipped back and took out the off stump.

Without addition Onions got the wicket he deserved. He had Greg Smith in all kinds of trouble before the right-hander edged to Paul Collingwood.

Despite never looking secure, Michael Lumb kept the board ticking over while Taylor settled in. But the double change saw Taylor benefit from facing Carse, while Lumb was bottled up by Weighell.

Bowling round the wicket, he generally got the ball to move away from the left-hander from a line starting on leg stump. It brought reward when Lumb edged to Borthwick for 22 and Weighell had one for seven from six overs at lunch.
