Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth sees further pressure pile on manager Steve McClaren and BetVictor make the Magpies boss the 1/3 (from 5/2) favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.
Defeat leaves Newcastle in the bottom three and, with McClaren conceding that the club will indeed be relegated if they continue to play in a similar manner, they are now 8/15 (from 4/6) to be playing Championship football next season.
The only weekend solace for Magpies fans was the late goal conceded by Sunderland as Sam Allardyce’s side missed a terrific chance to move out of the bottom three, throwing away a lead to draw 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s.
A 93rd minute goal from Saints’ defender Virgil Van Dijk moved the Black Cats out of the relegation zone but they remain precariously placed and are 4/9 with BetVictor to fall out of the top-flight at the end of the season.
Next Premier League manager to leave his post prices from BetVictor
Steve McClaren 1/3 (From 5/2); Remi Garde 8/1; Louis Van Gaal 10/1; Alex Neil 12/1; Manuel Pellegrini 14/1; 20/1 bar
The Black Cats undoubtedly have momentum on their side at present and would be preferred at 6/4 to stay up as opposed to the prices of Newcastle and Norwich at 6/5 and 9/4 respectively.
The Canaries are likely to lose once more at the weekend when meeting Manchester City; City the 4/7 favourites with BetVictor, Norwich 5/1 and the draw 3s.
Newcastle go to Champions-elect Leicester City next Monday. Claudio Ranieri’s side were cut to 5/4 favourites for the title after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road, but have struggled on home soil as of late and would warrant opposing at their current price of 4/6 with BetVictor; the Magpies 5/1 to leave the King Power with three points and 16/5 to draw.
