YORK boss Russ Wilcox will prioritise Saturday’s League Two game with Mansfield Town ahead of tomorrow night’s glamour Capital One Cup tie with Swansea City.

The Minstermen head to the Liberty Stadium to take on Premier League opposition in the second round of the League Cup, but Wilcox is more concerned about this weekend’s home game with Mansfield after Saturday’s goalless draw with Exeter City left his side in 18th position in the table.

Tomorrow’s game will be York’s sixth of the campaign, and Wilcox is set to make changes in an attempt to ensure his players do not suffer from burn out in the first month of the season.

“We’ve played five matches in 14 days now, and I thought we looked dead on our feet (against Exeter),” said the York boss. “Some of our lads are absolutely wiped out and, when fatigue comes into play, you can pick up injuries.

“I want to put out my strongest team, and Swansea’s a great arena to play in, but the bigger picture is we don’t want to lose players and I would prefer to win against Mansfield.

“I’m sure everybody will want to play, but I’ve got to do what’s best for the football club and, in the long term, the league is more important.”

Saturday’s game saw York offer little in terms of an attacking threat, but they recovered from the loss of centre-half Stephane Zubar to an early injury to claim a second successive clean sheet.

York: Flinders, Lowe, Winfield, Zubar (Ilesanmi 15), McCoy, Penn, Summerfield (Nolan 68), Berrett, Tutonda, Oliver, Hyde (Sinclair 74).
